12 weeks

I've officially made it through my first trimester! Hallelujah! I feel (somewhat) like a normal person again!! No more nausea & I'm not nearly as tired all the time.

How far along? This was taken at 12, but I started week 13 yesterday!
Total weight gain: 6 pounds
Maternity clothes? None yet! But it seems like everything gets tighter by the week...and more uncomfortable!
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: No problems sleeping at all. In fact, I think I have an easier time falling asleep since I've been pregnant. Normally I'm a night owl, but lately I've just been falling asleep earlier and earlier, and getting tons of good sleep.
Best moment this week: Nothing really to do with being pregnant, but having a surprise party for Keith.
Miss Anything? I do miss my flat stomach!
Movement: None that I have felt
Food cravings: Spicy mexican food... and I seem to want cheeseburgers and BLT's a lot this week. Oh, and pickles. I want them a lot at night.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender:  ???
Labor Signs: No way
Symptoms: Lots of annoying headaches this week. And it seems like I've had a lot more abdominal cramping this week, almost every day.
Belly Button in or out? innie
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: More happy, less moody lately.
Looking forward to: Still looking forward to knowing the gender.... I go to the baby section almost every time I'm at the store, but have restrained myself from buying anything....
Showing?: As you can see, just a little I guess. Still not enough for a stranger to notice, but Keith says he notices. (Though I think he 'noticed' at 6 weeks....is this his way of saying I'm looking hefty & getting away with it?)

This week I got some good advice from a friend of mine with a baby: Start buying diapers now. What a good idea! I hadn't even thought of that! She and her husband have recommended Target brand diapers, so I think I'll pick some up and start stockpiling. I thought I'd poll all the other mothers out there, though:
What diapers/brand do you recommend,  based on quality and price? I suppose we may try a few different ones to see what we like best.

  1. Luvs is a great brand and affordable I also liked the target brand as well! Also make sure when stock piling your diapers not to get too many newborn size diapers I did that with my son and he outgrew them before we used them! So stockpiling is a great idea but just watch the smaller size especially newborn! :) Good luck and ps You're looking great :)

  3. Even though they are the spendy ones....i LOVE pampers. I've so many less leaks and blow-outs with pampers than any other brand (we've tried them all...huggies, target, walmart, luvs, etc etc etc....). Also i've really never had problems with diaper rash either and i attribute that to the diapers as well. To even out the cost of them i try to buy generic other things like wipes, diaper cream, etc. Also i'm always asking people for diapers if they say the want to help me out somehow...i just had to started buying diapers for Savannah and she's 5 months old :)

  4. Sarah, do you have a Costco membership? I wonder if Costco has Pampers...

    1. i don't have a costco membership, but i actually use AmazonMoms from Amazon.com...you get pretty good discounts on pampers (actually a lot of different brands) from it. Also you can set up scheduled deliveries so you don't have to keep ordering every month, its just automatic. Actually-you should just look into AmazonMom anyway, they tend to have good deals on a lot of baby stuff.... :) http://www.amazon.com/gp/mom/signup/info

  6. Congratulations!!!! I'm so excited to follow you guys on this journey!!! I too can't wait to find out what you are having so I can start sewing! I too loved Pampers for when they are little little and then we found huggies worked better around the size 3 and up. Not sure why but we started having leaks the bigger Virginia got and once we switched to huggies we never had anymore.
Also I don't know if you guys have a wal-mart near you but (and this was 4 years ago) Wal-mart would exchange no questions asked an unopened box of diapers for whatever size you need. So if you get diapers at a shower or have too many of one size you can exchange them for what you want. Not sure Target will do that I never tried there.
Also I found the book Happiest Baby on The Block to be extremely helpful. One of the best pieces of advice from another mom was to get that book, read it BEFORE the baby comes, and then try everything they talk about. Our nurses at the Naval Hospital where I had Virginia were all trained by the author of that book in swaddling and other stuff and I found that it really worked. I'm not sure Virginia was a real test of being a cranky baby but the swaddling definitely worked! We got a miracle blanket (stupidly expensive) but it worked for me the best out of all the swaddlers. Okay enough of my unsolicited advice! :)

  7. Molly!! Thank you! I will ask at Target if they do that, we go there more. I will get that book as well, I need all the advice I can get!! So any you ever want to get I will happily take! And here is my dumb question (well two questions) of the day for all you moms...
#1. is a size one diaper the size you'd use for newborns?
#2. about how many diapers a day do you go through with a newborn/does it get less as they get older?

  8. Congratulations! We used Pampers while Henry was an infant because they are sooooo soft and they have this strip that changes color when the baby needs a diaper change. They are expensive though! When he was a little older we switched to Target brand diapers and I seriously recommend them! $20 for a box of 100 or so. And unlike all of the other cheap diapers we've tried, they almost never leak! Also, you should ask for diapers at your shower!!
